Calgary, Alberta (Cowtown) has a gay rodeo, and there's the Texas Lounge there:
http://calgary.gaycities.com/bars/930-the-texas-lounge where mature/outdoors men and cowboys often chill. Also in Edmonton, Alberta there is the Boots and Saddle Bar but I think it's gone more for the dance/techno scene crowd now :( I used to head there often when I lived there for a year, great crowd:
http://www.igougo.com/entertainment-rev ... addle.htmlEdmonton is Oiler, strictly bad ass biker and leather crowd. Boots, contrary to the name isn't a western bar, not for over 20 years, it is host to many drag events, not as many as Buddy's (front of the infamous Steamworks, a site which even the Edmonton police refuse to respond to) has a permanent crowd of wigs, heels and twinks loitering outside the front entrance since smokin is prohibited in any business, Boots however is the home of the Royal Court (of the drag King and Queen)...they do also host a bear event...but the lil burger joint owned and operated by them next door called the Garage, has the best Alberta beef burgers, voted by the city among the top restaurants, year after year. Edmontonians have a strong preference for bar and grill food over the swankiest Asian lounges. I would advise a casual day visit for lunch and a drink...but as for nightlife, evry time I've been it's a ghost town inside and very hostile outside, not a safe town for cowboys lookin for fun, gay or straight. Cowtown to the south a.k.a. Calgary is the best bet...much cleaner and less meaner.
